The weather this past few weeks has been amazing. Cool in the mornings, but by around 11am it's sunny and 75 degrees with a slight breeze. The days have been gorgeous and inviting and the nights chilly and cozy. I can understand why so many people want to live in northern California where the weather is like this all of the time. The weather combined with Jamesie's need to be outside is utterly infectious, and it has been keeping us out and busy.
It's no secret that I am obsessed with Fall. It is by far my favorite time of year. Although the weather has been wonderful recently, I can't help but wish the temperatures were a little more typical for this time of year. There have been a few days here and there where fall is beginning to peak through, and I can't explain how great that feels. Wearing leggings and vests, scarves and bean boots -- it's the most wonderful time of year.
The change in the weather matched with the changing colors of the leaves, fills me with pure bliss. The smell of apples and the taste of butternut squash makes my senses tingle. Being able to wear a sweater outside, finding a fallen leaf in my hair, baking pies and picking pumpkins (not to mention hot cider!!) -- these are the things that make my heart sing.
Jamesie and I have been spending time outside at parks or on trails just walking and exploring. One time on one of our excursions, we stopped to take a break and for Jamesie to have a little snack and some water. He was sitting on the grass in the light of the early morning eating his toast and peanut butter, looking up from under the trees with utter wonder spread across his face. His eyes tracked a leaf as it zigzagged its way to the ground -- he began to chuckle and kick his feet with delight. It was a magic moment and one that I won’t be soon to forget.
Last weekend James, Jamesie and I spontaneously went to Fall Fest organized by a town nearby. The local fire and police departments were there along with local restaurants and vendors. After walking through the silent auction and around the tables of different advertisers, we grabbed some food and sat down at a table beside the live music. Jamesie wanted to run all around, and for the most part we let him. He quickly found a group of pumpkins, and couldn’t hide the excitement on his face. I can hardly wait to take him apple and pumpkin picking. It appears that he is enjoying the coming fall as much as I am.
Through these changes in the seasons, Jamesie is again discovering the world around him. Everything is new and fresh and inspiring to him. I feel blessed to be able to share these small moments with him. Bearing witness to his innocence and sharing in his discoveries is a gift I hold dear. Happy Fall everyone!
