I'm warning you now -- there will be an influx of wedding planning posts from here on out.
Monday night I went to an event in NYC called Wedding Salon. There were about 100 vendors there, maybe more, and all of them were giving away samples and making their pitch. I tried so much cake, took pictures in multiple photo booths, talked to makeup artists and hair stylists, and overall I got some great ideas! I have some time before I need to start making decisions about what band I want, or what photographer I want to use, and I am so grateful for this time.
If you have ever been to a wedding, you know they are outrageous fun. Planning a wedding, however, is pretty stressful. You wouldn't even believe how many things there are to think about, and eventually, figure out. In fact, you might think you know a lot about wedding vendors and you might have everything picked out already... but you don't. Because you go to a wedding vendor fair and you see ben&jerry's food truck rentals and thats just so cool. Anyways... planning a wedding is stressful, and confusing, and overwhelming. At the same time, it's so so much fun.
Going to events like the Wedding Salon give me an opportunity to explore the options of the wedding world, and speak with vendors that might potentially help make my wedding what I've always dreamed it would be (or what I never even thought it could be). The energy of such an event is utterly contagious. Everyone was congratulatory and genuinely seemed to share in the excitement. I felt so glamorous and carefree. Leaving with two big bags full of info and free samples was also a huge bonus to an already fun night.
By the time I left the event and walked back to my car that carefree feeling had promptly disappeared and the neurotic planner within had emerged. I am obviously still insanely excited for my wedding, but I am also anxious and a little unsettled about the large feat of planning a wedding. I have been looking through magazine after magazine and I even have a binder to help myself keep organized, but, man, I can't wait until I have all my key vendors chosen and booked. It will be like a huge weight off of my shoulders. No wonder most brides go a little crazy...
Until then I will plug on with my research and continue to attend events like this most recent Wedding Salon. In fact, I might go to another bridal show this afternoon in a town right near my house. It will be much more low key (thankfully) and relaxing (I hope... probably not.) If there is one thing that I am absolutely sure of when it comes to our big day is that Jamesie is going to be the most charming and handsome little ring bearer :)
